How To Make WhatsApp Text Bold, Italic, Strikethrough and Monospace
Every platform can do the text formatting on WhatsApp, i.e., WhatsApp bold and Italics. For instance, if you make some text bolder on Android and send it to a friend using an iPhone, the formatting will remain intact. The message will appear with the same format on WhatsApp web too.
How to format the text on WhatsApp for Android and iPhone
- Go to WhatsApp on your Android or iPhone
- Choose the conversation you wish to type in bold, italics or use other formatting options
- Type the text
- Tap and hold on the text to select it
- Adjust the selection as needed to select all the text which you wish to format
- Android Users: Tap on ellipsis [ ]. After that, choose from Bold, Italics, Monochrome or strikethrough.
- iPhone/ iOS Users: Click BIU and choose the formatting to apply to your text
- WhatsApp will instantaneously display a preview of your text showing how it will look when sent
- Confirm that your formatting is properly applied to all of the text
- As a final point, tap on the send button to send the message to the other person
Note: Text underlining is not available on WhatsApp.
Alternative (Markdown) method to format text on WhatsApp
As an option, you can use some markdown to format all the text at the same time. For instance, if you have a text of long paragraph which you wish to reformat, then it is better to use markdown.
The following are the symbols which you can use to format message on WhatsApp as bold, italics or others:
Bold text: Type asterisk [ * ] at the front and end of the text to be bolded. For instance, the text below will get bolded if you paste it into your WhatsApp chat box:

Italics text: Type underscores [ _ ] on either side of text or phrase which you want to format as italics. For instance, the text below will change to italics if you paste it on WhatsApp:

Monospace text: Block the text with three (3) backticks [ “] on both sides. You can type backtick on a PC by pressing the first key on number row. For instance, the following text will change to monospace if you copied and pasted into a WhatsApp chat.

Strikethrough text: Input a tilde [ ~ ] at the beginning and end of the text which you want to format as strikethrough on WhatsApp. You can type tilde on a PC by pressing Shift + first key on number row. The following text will convert to strikethrough on WhatsApp if you try it out:

Multiple Formatting of The Same Text
Bonus: You can also use two different formatting in the same piece of text on WhatsApp. In other words, you can generate the following types of the combined format by using multiple markdown symbols together.
